奥斯卡·雅各布生，瑞典著名漫画大师，1898年出生于瑞典哥德堡。9岁时成了孤儿，13岁时靠给别人做工谋生，先后干过伐木工、铁匠学徒、火车炉工。1919年开始学习绘画，并在著名的《每日新闻》及其它报纸上陆续发表作品。1920年10月17日开始在《星期日——尼斯》幽默周刊上连载长篇连环漫画《怪老头》，自第二年起每年出版一个单行本，由此在全世界范围内产生影响，成为欧洲漫画宝库中的经典之作。1925年至1926年，雅各布生在希腊、意大利旅行期间，创作了《怪老头漫游记》。《怪老头》于1922年由美国统一新闻特稿社发行，更名为《不爱说的山姆》，但在1936年后竞为当地漫画家捉刀代笔，甚至加上背景和对话。1944年出版《怪老头二十五年佳作选》。晚年，虽身患绝症，仍致力于创作另一部漫画——《阿布·法凯尔》，连载于《我们》报，第二年结集出版单行本。1945年年底去世。
